Spring Flowers in Suresnes

So while we live in downtown Paris, I actually commute out to Suresnes, right outside Paris on the western side. Last week Suresnes suddenly exploded with flowers. The town of Suresnes must spend a fortune on flowers.

The bottom two pics here are in a Park (Parc du Chateau) that I can walk through on the way to work. Whoever the gardener is here, he/she has a serious bulb fetish. Narcissus, Daffodils, and Tulips for as far as the eye can see. The baby ducklings are just too cute, there are 3 of them, all fuzzy.

I really enjoy the flowers, yes, my tax dollars hard at work, and it's worth every penny.

 We've been enjoying Brood 14 cicadas in Asheville recently, they have been very numerous. I've never been in a full fledged cicada party before, they are hanging from all the trees and bushes, molting, changing color, singing wildly, and fornicating. I guess when you only get to party once every 17 years, you gotta make it a good one.

Beware of Houston Crosswalks!

Sarah had to travel to Houston to get her 'official' Visa from the much beloved French Consulate. She's had to go there so many times, they know her by name now when she walks in (no, I'm not kidding). The plan was drop in, get the visa, and head home to Paris. Apparently crossing when the signal says "walk" in a crosswalk in Houston is not so safe. Sarah got pegged by a car while crossing in front of the French Consulate. Suzy flew back, and we spent some time recovering in Austin. Sorry we didn't get to see everyone, but we didn't want to push our luck. Sarah was well enough to fly back, so we're home in Paris now. Today we were able to walk a bit along the river, and had pasteries (which have wonderful healing properties). Sarah is definitely on the mend. Suzy is 'finding religion' again, as November has another French religious holiday. Whoohoo! Living in Paris main page

West Coast: Portland, Seattle, San Diego

 We recently took a much needed trip to the West coast. Trip was fairly family focused, as we have family in Portland, Seattle, and San Diego. Had a blast in Portland, loved the food truck culture. Amazing mole (3 kinds!), really nice Peruvian smoked chicken with yummy jalapeño cilantro cream sauce, amazing Pizza crust (Kens Artisan Pizza), and it was fun to try Burmese food (a salad with green tea dressing and 4-5 different types of nuts/seeds).  Enjoyed relaxing afternoon beer at a pub, enjoyed tranquil Japanese gardens, saw Sarahs nephew, hung out at Powells, and played some games of Tempest in a retro arcade. Portland definitely suits us, we will be back.   Seattle was a quick visit, checking in on my parents and sister, and seeing Sarah's sister.  San Diego was visiting Sarah's other sister, and seeing Sarah's almost 1 year old grand nephew (wow, that feels old!).
